Aerolineas
Argentinas
Argentina's
government has decided to seize the country's
biggest airline, Aerolineas Argentinas, because
talks with the current owners over a price have
broken down, a local newspaper reported. Private
Spanish travel group Marsans agreed in July to
sell faltering Aerolineas Argentinas and its
Austral unit to the government.

TAM
TAM will begin
operating its new daily flight to Orlando,
Florida on November 21. This will be the
company's 18th international destination, which
also has flights to the US cities of New York
and Miami. The modern Airbus A330 aircraft, with
a total capacity of 213 passengers, will fly the
new route. The configuration will offer 42
executive class and 171 economy class
seats.
The flights will
depart daily from Guarulhos International
Airport in Sao Paulo at 11:30 a.m. (local time)
and arrive in Orlando at 5:00 p.m. (local time).
The return flight will depart from Orlando at
6:50 p.m. (local time) and arrive in Sao Paulo
at 6:35 a.m. (local time). TAM currently
operates 18 weekly flights between Brazil and
New York City, as well as 28 flights to and from
Miami.
All flights
receive and offer connections. The new route is
part of the company's strategy for selective
growth in the international market. "Orlando is
one of the destinations most sought after by
Brazilians, both for holidays and for business
trips," said Paulo Castello Branco, vice
president of Commerce and Planning. The
availability of new destinations is part of a
focus on service excellence, one of TAM's three
pillars of action, along with
technical/operational and management
excellence.
TAM, Star
Alliance
Star Alliance is
hoping to follow the addition of TAM into the
alliance by expanding its co-location efforts to
the Brazilian carrier's Sao Paulo Guarulhos
airport base. Talks have already begun with
Brazilian airport operator Infraero on a
co-location move, an initiative the alliance has
embarked on to co-locate its carriers at the
same terminal at key airports. Speaking during a
press conference in Sao Paulo to mark TAM's
decision to join Star Alliance, the airline's
commercial and planning VP, Paulo Castello
Branco says: "The advantages are not just for
airlines and customers but it can also reduce
costs for airport operators themselves." He says
talks have already begun with the airport's
operator Infraero and the airline says Infraero
is thinking positively about the project. "I
think in 2009 we will be able have Star Alliance
housed in one terminal," says Branco.
